This is a chart of the popular presidential vote since 1980. Showing us democrat and republican voters in total numbers but what doesn’t appear on this chart is the voter’s demographic. That can be seen in many other charts but if you review what we know already. it is clear that people who vote for the democrat party do it out of three main reasons:
1. They want to expand the welfare state - this applies mostly for the Black and Hispanic communities
2. They want power over the big cooperation or companies - this applies mainly to the union workers.
3. They believe in the Liberal ideals - this applies mainly for the White upper middle class.
Nice post on this issue here
None of this groups can be easily persuaded to vote for McCain or any other republican candidate.
This voters won’t turn Republican easily as their invested interest is too strong and they all have something to lose.
The target group should be those who have achieved some economical stability, the working class of all ethnic groups as long as they are socially stable for a generation at least, these people would suddenly realize that they no longer have to fight for government’s help but rather they are better of if the other people that are trying to gain success now won’t get so much help from the welfare state that once helped them to progress.
It is not just the working class that has already changes alliances but all other people that have worked hard for what they’ve got and want to be free to enjoy it.
It is really very simple the better off economically people are the more likely they are to vote for the Republican for the first time.
Are we able to target these people, this is a question the answer too would be revealed in November.
