Vote Yes on Proposition 200 The Arizona Taxpayer and Citizen Protection Act

Yes on Proposition 200 is also known as The Arizona Taxpayer and Citizen Protection Act. Arizona Proposition 200 is a citizens' initiative to require proof of citizenship to register to vote, photo ID to vote, and proof of eligibility for non-federally mandated public benefits (welfare). The Proposition 200 voter initiative was conceived and directed by Arizona residents.

Proposition 200 will implement measures to protect the integrity of the voter rolls against corruption and fraud and will prevent public agencies from accepting insecure identification cards to show eligibility for public benefits, unless the issuing agency has verified the immigration status of the cardholder.

Why is Proposition 200 necessary?

No one can deny that Arizona is experiencing a mass influx of illegal aliens seeking to unlawfully settle in Arizona. The net costs of providing benefits and services to the estimated 500,000 illegal aliens living in Arizona now exceeds $1 billion annually, or an average of $700 a year per household. Moreover, the numbers of illegal aliens and the cost of providing benefits and services are increasing rapidly.

Government agencies in Arizona currently have no uniform laws controlling when or how to verify the identity of an applicant for benefits, or whether that person is an ineligible illegal alien. The initiative prohibits Arizona government agencies from accepting insecure identification cards for verification of public benefits eligibility. To protect the public against fraud and corruption in public services, the issuing agency must have verified the immigration status of the cardholder.

Well I'm not an Arizonan, but here's my opinion: If you need it, fine, but it doesn't get at the problem
