To be fair, Ratzinger was never a Nazi. He was 14 when he was conscripted into the Hitler Jugend. He and his brother Georg both had no choice. It was either join or else. When he was 18, he was again forced to join the German army, but he wasn't a soldier. He was (IIRC) a mechanic's assistant at a BMW plant. They released him from active duty when he announced his priestly vocation. The charge of 'Nazi' is completely bogus.
