More Evidence of the Saddam-al Qaeda Connection

One of the princple rationales for removing Saddam Hussein was his support for terrorism in general, and al Qaeda in particular. We've noted in the past Stephen Hayes's research on this topic, which the MSM strangely seems intent on ignoring.

Now, there is more information coming to light about Saddam's support for al Qaeda-linked groups.

Late last month an Algerian-born terrorist named Ahmed Ressam received a commuted sentence of 22 years (prosecutors had recommended 35 years) in prison for his role in planning to blow up the Los Angeles airport...

Ressam's story, like that of so many other al Qaeda-affiliated terrorists, contains an endless list of murky connections to a host of nefarious people and groups. The most troubling of these ties is to al Qaeda's Algerian affiliates, the Armed Islamic Group (aka the 'GIA' and its descendant, the Salafi Group for Preaching and Combat (the 'GSPC'...

It is a curious fact, then, that Saddam Hussein provided financial assistance to the GIA when it was in its earliest stages of germination. There is still much we do not know about Saddam's relationship with al Qaeda's Algerian affiliate. But, Iraq's relationship with the GIA warrants further investigation given its tortuous history.

Yeah, yeah, a convicted terrorist sounds like a great source of information. Especially when you give him back 13 years to say anything you need him to say. Or did you just beat it out of him?

Hussein was a Stalinist secular dictator. In claiming fundamentalist connections your denying Reagan, Bush, Clinton, and Carters analysis of him. Not to mention the entire history of the Hussein regime and almost 30 years of CIA work on the man and his country. Absolutely preposterous.

Well, let's start with the obvious bogosities.

Bringing Ressam into you fable is a red herring intended to divert attention from the fats. Ressam said NOTHING to implicate Iraq with his work in particular and al Qaeda in general.

Second, you claim that Iraq's ties to the GIA is proof of a tie with al Qaeda. But then you admit that GIA no longer exists. Then you try to bootstrap a connection vetwen their successor and Hussein, even though you admit that othing is known (because there is noting to know). All you have is innuendo.

By this bogus logic we should be indicting Reagan
