The margin of victory was 4% in a district that historically favors Republicans by margins of 45% or better. It should have been a walk in the park for Jean Schmidt, but the GOP had to sink an extra $500,000 into this race in order to pull it out. Not only that, the Democrats have a new star in Ohio. So much for 'burying' Hackett...

Sounds like the Democrats can't even win the close ones, doesn't it. And, without being able to win Ohio, the Democrat Party's chances of ever regaining the White House are just about zip.
I think this was a bellweather election, and I think it proves that things are continuing to get worse and worse for the sick Democrat Party.
Plus the GOP pretty much owns the entire South now, in addition to owning northern states such as Ohio. Also keep in mind that the population trends show more and more people migrating to the red states, which means the Electoral Votes for those red states will increase, while those for the northern (blue) states is going to continue to decrease.
The Democrat Party appears to be fairly rapidly going the way of the Whig

Really? How do you explain '92 and '96, especially when a virtually unknown Clinton kicked the shit out of George's old man, then smashed a well known and loved US Senator, Bob Dole? You are drinking too much firewater, Native American.

Clinton's percentages were far more than Bush's 'appointments'.

But you miss the POINT. THIS RACE should never have been CLOSE AT ALL! The predecessor won by 70-30 votes this vote was far to close in a district that's 3-1 Republican. It should have been a slam dunk for any Republican and it certainly wasn't!
It may be a bellweather. But still it's just one election. But what you are dancing in the streets about is a close election in a slam-dunk Republican stronghold. The bellweather is that the Cons are losing popularity among there own kind.
Owning OHIO? Didn't see the last Presidential election? It was pretty close.
I love that about the conservatives. You memories are so short.
