On Friday, Tony Blair called for a special summit of European leaers to 'debate the European social model.' The facts confronting Europe are bleak. Economic decline, combined with demographic suicide in many countries and a populace unwilling to face the facts about social welfare programs, add up to a bleak future. The crisis is taking an economic form:

Where's their failure? Even with unemployment high Europeans live a good life.
It looks more like a success in that their citizens are doing well in the face of adversity.
They have health insurance, housing, and food. We Americans are not so fortunate

Wow. A misspelling in the first sentence. This does not inspire confidence in the abilities of the author.

yeah, 50 years of their socialism - those Europeans will see that it doesn't work in their next hundred years - unlike capitalism and democracy in the Philippines, the old Chinese republic, most countries in Latin America, South America, Africa.
Oh, wait - most of the countries in those places eventually traded in their capitalism for dictatorships... apparently they had no socialist expectations by the masses which keep the power-mad in check. (no, the soviet citizens and communist Chinese had no socialist expectations when they took power - their countries were capitalist when the reds took over.)
You should read how Marcos took power over the decades in the Philippines. Divide, isolate, ridicule thought, and reward those who trample rights. (If you can find a book on it - the Bush righties probably have banned any copies other than theirs.)

Economic decline? Really? If you look at the stock markets, you will find the British, German and French markets up 9%, 10% and 14% this year (as of July 13). The Dow, on the other hand, is down 2%, Nasdaq is down 1.5%, and the SP 500 is up 1%.

That was known even before the years of inferior economic performance of Europe relative to the USA. (You know, the kind of performance that led left-wing 'economists' in the Northeast like Thurow to claim that Europe would 'win' the global economic competition.)
Just wait for the real problems to begin in the years to come, when the retirement problems of Europe happen, problems that will be worse than what we will suffer here.

Uh huh. Eurpopean retirees are going to be getting health care and a retirement income that lets them be productive and significant contributors to the economy.
US seniors are going to be sickly, debilitaed, and poor. Cat food does not drive an economy.
European health care costs are about half of the US costs on a per capita basis. They can provide world class health care for their entire populations for LESS than we do for only part of ours.
'Old' Europe has a lower percentage of seniors in poverty than the US soes, seniors whose economic activity helps to drive their economies.

Europe with fewer poor seniors? Where are you getting your data? Don't forget about all these East countries that just joined the EU. You are a FOOL to believe that Czech and Polish seniors are richer than Americans. Additionally, there are many frogs who must sell-out and leave Paris just because they can't pay the rent. Many live with their children because they are too poor to support themselves. On a final note, the French do not have individual investments like many Americans, so they can only rely upon what their government hands-out.
