I don’t and who would, I wonder?

This blogger quotes Obama’s plan for the Social Security payroll tax increase:

Democrat Barack Obama would apply the Social Security payroll tax to all annual incomes above $250,000, which he says would affect the wealthiest 3 percent of Americans.

The payroll tax is now applied to all income up to $102,000 a year, which covers the entire amount for most Americans. Under Obama’s plan, the tax would not apply to incomes between that amount and $250,000. But all annual income above the quarter-million-dollar amount would be taxed under his plan.

Obviously this is not going to work. The amount of people making enough money to be taxed according to this plan are not enough to keep social security in the black.

And, being that people with incomes as high as this are obviously money smart, they would divert their incomes in such a way to avoid the tax.

This is no more than another election proclamation that has nothing but fresh air behind it.!

Jeanette Stevens has recently been nominated to challenge for a seat in the State House of Representatives, in Connecticut.

On Her website it says:

In January I was asked by the State and Town GOP leaders to run for State Representative. I have accepted. Effecting change in Hartford is a great way to serve my community. Be assured I am committed to doing what is best for Madison and North Guilford and not what is best for the advancement of a personal career in politics.

As you well know, our shoreline communities continually struggle to pay for needed services while keeping property taxes in check. This is especially important today during these uncertain economic times.

As your State Representative in Hartford I will advocate for the values, issues and concerns of the 101st District. We need more funds for our schools and for the promotion of open spaces while helping to promote balanced economic development.

I look forward to meeting many of you over the next few months! I am continually reminding my children to “play nice” in the proverbial sandbox - the same is true in the political arena. It is time to end the political divisiveness at the Town and State levels.

What it doesn’t say is that she is apparently an avid WOW player (for those of you who are not in the loop WOW is a game called World of Warcraft)

GP says:

Can the skills which enabled you to reach level 70 in World of Warcraft help make you an effective legislator?

We may find out, as the Connecticut Republican Party has nominated attorney - and WoW player - Jeanne Stevens (left) to challenge for a seat in the State House of Representatives. As reported by the Shore Line Times, the former Manhattan prosecutor enjoys playing WoW

Well that remains to be seen.

McCain

There are voices, within the conservative republican camp who are not to please with McCain and all he represent, and demand of us republicans to rethink our choices.

One such voice is to my feeling so sincere and in so much inner turmoil that I thought it worth quoting him, because he does make some thought worthy points.

I think that this all started with the “nomination” of John McCain. Sure, fine, he’s a Republican and he’s far superior to either Obama or Clinton; but the only thing that crosses my mind whenever I see him or hear him speak is “is this the best we could do?”…The three people running for the top office and one of which who will lead this country over the next four to eight years are all people that I wouldn’t trust to run a 7-11 let alone this nation. I mean, really, how could this have happened? Sure, I lamented the loss of Fred Thompson, but him aside, there were far better choices out there than John McCain.

In my battle for tobacco rights, I have gotten to know McCain’s idea of freedom, and it isn’t good. If he knew a damned thing about what it means to live free and be free, he would never have made the choices he has regarding tobacco. While this is just one of many things, it is simply an example that I have become quite familiar with. This has shown me what McCain thinks about free speech (plus throw in McCain-Feingold to top it off) free choice, and free markets. And this is the man that Conservatives (Republicans) chose as their man? Give me a break! Don’t get me wrong, I’ll still fight, I’m just not sure what route to take these days. Do you fight for McCain and keep the dems from taking over and driving us off the cliff (so McCain can drive us off a shorter cliff)? Or do I fight for the dems with the hopes that they’ll spark off some sort of radical revolution? or do I fight for a third party and keep the ideals that I hold dear?

For more of this blogger thoughts go here.

If this man is not the only one that feels this way - bad enough with the nomination that he is even considering vaguely to go the opposite direction in a kind of hope to push for the worst to make improvement come through the back door - Maybe we should revisit our decisions and examine them once more.

Or maybe - one should accept that there will always be people out there that aren’t satisfied and there is no way to please everyone.

What do you think?

Palastinian Israeli Negotiations

If we look beyond the all consuming elections for a minute, we will remember that there are real issues out there, for example the middle east situation.

Both the Israeli Palestinian situation and the Iraqi situation have some common ground.

This blogger says:

“Ignore everything they say and pay attention only to what they do”

He also bring several examples of this contradictory behavior:

Case in point is today’s announcement of the recipients of the P.A.’s highest medal; ‘The Al Kuds Mark of Honor’. One would think that this august award, which is given at the sole discretion of the P.A. President, would go to one of the moderate leaders of the P.A. negotiating team or to some poet or national icon who has worked tirelessly for the peaceful achievement of Palestinian Statehood.

But one would be wrong.

Instead, ‘The Al Kuds Mark of Honor’, was bestowed upon the following worthy individuals:

Ahlam Tamimi - A Hamas terrorist currently serving a life sentence for driving the suicide bomber who blew himself up in the Sbarro restaurant in Jerusalem, killing at least half a dozen people, including an entire family.

Amra Muna - The female terrorist who seduced Israeli teenager Ophir Rahum over the Internet and then lured him to Ramallah where he was murdered by her co-conspirators.

Again, can there be any doubt as to the P.A.’s true intentions if these are the models they hold up to their people as paradigms of exemplary civic behavior and praiseworthy contributors to the cause of Palestinian nationalism?

There are countless more examples for this kind of behavior - some more can be found here.

Its kind of strange that we have to be reminded of that really simple rule of thumb. Where else in life would one need that kind of reminder…. If someone says “I’ll pay you back” but never does - you draw your conclusions from that.

If someone says “I love you” then turns around and slaps you - you would probably conclude that they dont mean the same thing as you do when they say “love”

What is it about this situation that removes our common sense?
